Is the lead magnet you use doing you and your business any favors?

Is the lead magnet you use doing you and your business any favors?

This is a good question to ponder, especially if you are in some stage of business reinvention, message refinement, or strategic pivot.

Over the years, I have created scores and scores of lead magnets to support various aspects of my business.

Some were very useful for the season I was in.

Some became outdated as my message evolved.

Some attracted plenty of people, but not necessarily the right people for the work I was most excited to do next.

That is why it is so important to ask:

Is this lead magnet still aligned with the conversation I want to be known for now?

Is it attracting the people I most want to serve?

Is it leading naturally toward the offers, invitations, and communities I am creating next?

I use LeadPages to create my opt-in pages, and the dashboard lets me see how well each page converts from click to lead.

In January of this year, I created several new lead magnets to support a pivot I was making in my business.

The New Year also felt like a timely moment to start a fresh conversation with my community.

Then I invited members of this group and subscribers to my ezine to download them first.

After that, I visited my LeadPages dashboard to see which of these new tools was resonating most with the people who follow my work.

Here is what I found:

>> The No Regrets Worksheet converted from click to lead at 40% after 726 visits.

>> The Next Magnificent Chapter Journal converted from click to lead at 60% after 630 visits.

One had a slightly more cautionary angle: No Regrets.

The other had a more spacious and optimistic angle: Next Magnificent Chapter.

Both were aligned with my message.

Both had value.

But one clearly performed better.

A 60% conversion rate from click to lead is very respectable by internet marketing standards, and it gave me useful insight about the conversation my audience most wanted to join.

The lesson?

Sometimes the market tells us what it is ready for.

Sometimes our dashboard confirms what our intuition has been whispering.

And sometimes the lead magnet that performs best is the one that opens the door to hope, possibility, and a more compelling future.

Now that I have that insight, I can move forward with more confidence as I invite strategic partners, colleagues, and fans of my work to share the stronger-performing gift with their communities.

So here is a useful question for you:

Have you examined how well your lead magnets are converting from click to lead?

And beyond the numbers, have you asked whether your lead magnet is doing these three things?

  1. Attracting the right people

  2. Starting the right conversation

  3. Creating a natural next step toward the work you most want to be known for now

If you are reinventing, refining, or stepping into your own next magnificent chapter, your lead magnet may need to evolve right along with you.

Use it for your own reflection.

Study it as an example.

Or let it spark your own thinking about what kind of lead magnet would do your business the biggest favor now.
